David O. Mckay

David O. McKay was born on September 8, 1873 in Huntsville, Utah. According to mormon history, McKay served an LDS mission to Great Britain for two years. David O. McKay married Emma Ray Riggs on January 2, 1901. Just five year later McKay was called to be an Apostle to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. David O. McKay was ordained President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1950, and on April 9, 1951, he was ordained President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. During his presidency, according to Mormon history, the church softened their stance on blacks holding the priesthood. If dark-skinned people could not be traced back to being African they were allowed to hold the priesthood. After 19 years as President of the Church, McKay passed away on January 18, 1970.
