Understanding White Wines
28 January 2012
The first thing you need to know about white wines is that they aren’t white, but actually come in yellow, gold, or straw-colored varieties. The best white wines are made from the grape juice and grape skin of green, gold, or yellowish grapes, or just from the juice of selected red grapes.
White wines are usually taken with light meals like lunch, small dinners, and as an aperitif, which means they are served before dinner to stimulate the appetite. White wine is best served in narrow glasses since the sharp taper at the top of the glass allows for better aroma concentration, especially for its more delicate varieties.
