Have You Heard of Fingerprint Cards?
With the advancement of technology, credit card companies strive to find ways to provide better service to their clients. And as cases of identity theft and fraud also increase, providing credit cards with more protection is a welcome development.
In 2002, at Thriftway supermarket in Washington, a new system of payment was introduced. Customers were asked to register their profiles and credit card information. Registered customers were then able to pay for their groceries by matching their fingerprints with their profiles. Since each fingerprint is unique, this new system was designed with the hope to reduce the risk of fraud and identity theft.
Since fingerprint credit cards were first used, some companies have shown great interest in this new system. Nevertheless, there are still some serious concerns left unanswered regarding this method of payment. For instance, there is the issue of the reliability and trustworthiness of the company who will be handling customer’s personal information. Many consumers may also be unwilling to entrust their personal information. Nevertheless, it is a relief to know that new systems are being developed to provide more protection against crimes of theft and credit card fraud.
